Japanese Fishermen Catch Strange Spider Crab

In late January, Japanese fishermen discovered and caught a strange spider crab near the port of Kesennuma. The crab, measuring nearly two feet wide, has legs like a spider and a bright red shell. Crab fisherman Kimihiko Kato described it as "the face of a devil."

The spider crab is one of the world's largest arthropods, with leg spans of up to 12 feet. They are usually found in deep water, but this one was likely blown inland by the tsunami that struck Japan in March 2011.

So far, there is no definitive explanation for why this spider crab has such an unusual appearance. Some experts suggest that it may be an example of adaptation, as the radiation from the Fukushima nuclear disaster may have caused some mutations in local wildlife. However, since no other spider crabs with this same appearance have been found, it is also possible that this is simply a one-of-a-kind individual.

The spider crab is not considered to be a commercially valuable species and is not hunted for food. However, its unique appearance is sure to fascinate biologists and ordinary citizens alike.

Massachusetts Fisherman Catches Gigantic Spider Crab

A fisherman in Massachusetts has made an incredible catch - a gigantic spider crab.

The crab is said to weigh in at around 18 pounds, and measure close to three feet across.

According to the fisherman, he had never seen anything like it before. "It was a beautiful creature," he said. "I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it."

Spider crabs are not commonly found in the waters off Massachusetts, but they can be found in colder waters down south. They are typically caught by fishermen in traps, and can fetch a high price at market.

This particular spider crab is expected to bring a good price, as it is one of the biggest ever caught in the area.

Spider Crab Washes Ashore in Oregon

Residents of Lincoln City, Oregon were greeted over the weekend by a six-legged, four-foot spider crab that had apparently been washed ashore.

"I've lived in this town for 23 years and I've never seen anything like that before," said local resident Bruce Bishop. "It was pretty creepy."

While some residents were frightened by the sight of the spider crab, others were excited to have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the unusual creature.

"My kids were so excited when they saw it," said local mother Kelly Turner. "They've never seen anything like that before."

Officials from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife believe that the spider crab may have wandered ashore after being displaced by storms in the Pacific Ocean.
